Good News/Bad News

At this point, I think my readers are a mixture of Christians and Non-Christians so I'm not always sure which way to target my posts.  For those who know me very well, you'll forgive me for giving "TMI"  (too much information).  The good news right now is that I haven't had a seizure in 3 months!  That is a miracle in itself.  My epilepsy is mostly caused by my hormones.  The bad news is I'm probably not having seizures because I seem to be beginning early menopause!  Can anyone say "hot flashes"!  It has been a trying summer on many levels, but I found this article that helped me put things in a better perspective.  It's sometimes hard being a woman and the mother of a challenging teen while your hormones are out of whack!  Maybe you will gain something from this sweet little article also.

A Time to Grow by Carolyn Mahaney
There are few times I feel less spiritual than when I face physical and hormonal challenges such as PMS and (now) menopause. I feel tired and irritable, my sin sometimes spilling over onto those around me.
My strategy has often been to try and wait it out. Once this is over, I tell myself, then I’ll get back to making progress in the Christian life. I forget that I am smack in the middle of God’s plan for my life! God has ordained these hormonal days along with all the others! Menopause isn’t simply a trial to get through. It’s an opportunity for testing faith and spiritual growth.
Elizabeth Prentiss beautifully expresses this point:
Stockxpertcom_id859159_size1 “God never place us in any position in which we can not grow. We may fancy that He does. We may fear we are so impeded by fretting, petty cares that we are gaining nothing; but when we are not sending any branches upward, we may be sending roots downward. Perhaps in the time of our humiliation, when everything seems a failure, we are making the best kind of progress.”
The best kind of progress. Far from precipitating a spiritual decline, we often grow more in these difficult seasons than when life is easy, and we feel like we’re flourishing (remember, those feelings can’t be trusted!)
That’s why the apostle Paul sees weakness as an opportunity for boasting in the Lord:
“But [God] said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).
For the sake of Christ, we are to boast in our weaknesses, we are to be content in menopause or PMS or postpartum depression. For when we are weak, it is then that His power rests on us. What an opportunity!

But My Sins Are Too Big To Be Forgiven

No matter how bad your sin seems in the eyes of people, you can rest in the fact that Jesus is bigger, greater and more powerful than any sin.  It doesn't matter what you've done as long as we ask Jesus to cleanse it all away.  The only unforgivable sin is to refuse to believe in Jesus Christ. This is not to say that there aren't consequences to sin.  Of course there may be and there usually are.  Sin leaves scars.

Remember the thieves on the crosses beside Jesus.  One of them mocked and denied Him.  The other couldn't change a single moment of the life he had lived or the choices he had made,  but he called on Jesus to remember him in His kingdom. And Jesus did.  Jesus told him that today he would be with Him in paradise.  If Satan has stolen most of your life on earth, don't let him steal your eternity.

Because we live in a fallen world, all of us are sinners.  When given a choice, we all choose sin each in our own way.   Some of them seem particularly nasty and evil and some of them seem benign.   One person might battle with adultery or even murder while another can't control their gossipy tongue.  But your sins are no greater than my sins and my sins are no greater than your sins in the eyes of God.  They keep us separated from Him.  Thankfully, God made a provision for us to break free and be saved from our sins through His death and resurrection.  We must be willing to turn from our sin and turn to the One who saves us from them.  He will look at us as though they were never there at all.

"Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them"  Romans 4: 7-8

It Is Well With My Soul

I was deeply moved when I heard the story behind this beautiful hymn some years ago.  Many of you probably already know the story.  If not, please take a minute to read it and listen to one of the most inspired and beautiful hymns of all times.  The God who sustained him will give us peace also and we can rest in the knowledge of the wonderful eternity He has prepared for those who love Him.

Many folks have heard and sung the classic hymn by Horatio Spafford, It Is Well With My Soul.  But I would imagine few people know the tragic yet heartwarming story that inspired Spafford to write it.
Spafford was a successful Chicago attorney with profitable investments in Chicago real estate.  On October 8, 1871 the Chicago fire ripped through the city and destroyed nearly all Spafford’s real estate investments.
Two years later Spafford decided he and his family deserved a family vacation. They chose London as their destination. Spafford’s good friend Dwight L. Moody was scheduled to preach there that fall, so the trip would be a special one for Spafford and his family.
Business delayed his departure, but he sent his wife and their four daughters, 11, nine, five and two ahead on the steamship, the Villa Du Havre. On November 22, 1873 an iron sailing vessel crashed into the steamship. In the mishap 226 people lost their lives.
When his wife, Anna, reached the European shore she sent a telegram to Spafford with only two words: Saved Alone.
Spafford sailed to Europe to be with his wife. He took the same route across the sea as the Villa Du Havre. Spafford asked the ship’s captain to tell him when they crossed the spot at sea where his four daughters perished.  Spafford waited by the railing.  When the captain informed Spafford they were crossing his daughters’ watery graves, Spafford penned the words to his beloved hymn, It Is Well With My Soul.

God and Dog

Couldn't resist this one!  I was telling my kids recently that it just amazes me that God created this creature whose biggest concern is just loving us and giving us pleasure.  And in turn, we get so much pleasure from just loving them back!  What a precious gift to humankind!  So here's an adorable video in honor of my most faithful friend's first birthday!  Love my sweet Shane!

Religion or the Gospel?

Sadly, we're often guilty of allowing "religion" to replace the gospel.  Religion...with all it's rituals, rules and never-ending to-do lists keeps us forever coming up short.  It was a problem in the early church in the Bible and it's a problem now.  We obey God out of thankfulness for what He did on the cross.  Not to win His favor.

Do any of these "isms" sound familiar?

  • Formalism: the gospel is reduced to church activities and service disconnected from the heart and how life is lived
  • Mysticism: the gospel is reduced to dynamic emotional and spiritual experiences
  • Activism: the gospel is reduced to participation in Christian causes
  • Biblicism: the gospel is reduced to mastery of the biblical content and theology
  • Psychology-ism: the gospel is reduced to the healing of emotional needs
  • Social-ism: the gospel is reduced to a network of fulfilling Christian relationships
  • Legal-ism:  reducing the gospel to "good works" that can be earned for salvation.

When the church of the Galatians started perverting the gospel of Jesus with the law, Paul came to meet with them and he was furious!  I love what he told them (it's meant for us today, too).   Paul said, "I can't believe your fickleness- how easily you have turned traitor to Him who called you by the grace of Christ by embracing a variant message!  It is not a minor variation, you know; it is completely other, an alien message, a no -message, a lie about God.  Let me be blunt;  If one of us-even an angel from heaven-were to preach something other than what we preached originally, let him be cursed!"  He goes on to say, "is it not clear to you that to go back to that old rule-keeping, peer-pleasing religion would be an abandonment of everything personal and free in my relationship with God?  I refuse to do that, to repudiate God's grace.  If a living relationship with God could come by rule-keeping, then Christ died unnecessarily.  You crazy Galatians!  Did someone put a hex on you?"

Let us remember Paul's admonishment when we begin to add things to the gospel.  Paul ends his message by telling the Galatians, "as for me, I am going to boast about nothing but the Cross of our Master, Jesus Christ."

That's My King...I Wonder, Do You Know Him?

S.M. Lockridge (now deceased) simply speaks about Jesus Christ.  He tries to describe Him although He's really indescribable.  So powerful, you'll be moved to tears.

Exploring Spiritual Gifts

Yesterday's blog touched on spiritual gifts but there is so much more to say.  Unfortunately, there is no way a blog can ever truly cover any of these topics like Jesus, the Bible, prayer, etc...It can only be a few thoughts and reflections on the subject.  So here is a bit more of what I'd like to share about spiritual gifts that you may find helpful.

Learning what gifts God has given you is a life-changing experience.  When we use our gifts, we are more effective Christians.  When I looked at myself, all I could see were flaws and weaknesses and it seemed like I lacked any real purpose.  I'm bad at a lot of things. Don't laugh.  It's true.  How could God use someone like me?  As I mentioned yesterday, my pastor felt strongly that our church members all needed to find their purpose in order to be more effective as a church body and as Christians.

Here is some of what I learned and it might help you to find your purpose:

Step 1)  Listen to your heart.  What are you happiest doing?  Are you good at anything in particular?  Your natural reaction to a situation will offer insight to what gifts you possess.

Step 2)  Spiritual Gift Assessment.  My pastor put an assessment on the church website and I found out I had some gifts I'd never considered.  Me...a gift of evangelism?  We also took a personality test and I learned I was a "melancholy".  As a melancholy... I'm analytical, thoughtful, and sensitive but also moody, critical, pessimistic and a loner.  How could my personality and gifts work together?  The web is filled with sites where you can take these self-assessments.

Step 3)  Pray.  God is the one who placed the gift inside you and He will confirm if you are on the right track.  Prayer will help you remain faithful and humble in the use of your gift.

Step 4)  Exercise your gift.   Begin to use the gift you believe you've been given.   If there is not a sense of fulfillment or joy just from exercising the gift (and not from affirmations by people), you may need to continue to seek God to reveal your gifts to you.  Remember, the gift and the power behind the gift ultimately belongs to God.

May you find your gift and may it be used to serve those around you and to bring others into the kingdom of God.

Lady Gaga's Gifts

So now that I have your attention, give me a minute to explain.  My pastor recently finished an informative series about finding and using our spiritual gifts and also how we can better use our gifts when we understand our distinct, God-given personalities.  According to the Bible, spiritual gifts are given to each of us to prepare God's people for service and for building His kingdom.  Some are given the ability to speak and lead, others are given gifts of hospitality, encouragement or administration.  There are numerous gifts, all of them equally important.   As the body of Christ, we can't all be the mouth or the hands.  We must also have the feet, ears, elbows and knees.  Some of us think we haven't been given a gift but we all surely have one.  And the purpose of our gift is to serve others and bring them to Christ.

Consider Mother Theresa and her gifts of kindness and compassion.  Those gifts weren't wasted as she served and shared the love of Jesus to multitudes of sick and dying people.  I can think of countless others who are not so well-known and are giving their gifts to God.

Now consider Lady Ga Ga.  The woman has some gifts.  No doubt about it... she is bold, creative and has a wonderful singing voice.  But her gifts are being used to glorify sex, drugs, self and to mock the God who created her.  Imagine for a moment how she could impact the world if she were using her creativity and boldness to share the gospel message.  She has the potential to further the kingdom in a mighty way.

Are you a Christian or have you recently become one?  It's time to figure out what we are created to be and what God's purpose is for our lives.  I have more to share so this will be continued.

Who Is Jesus?

To me, so much depends on who we believe Jesus is.   If we believe He spoke the truth, it should change everything for us. He fulfilled Old Testament prophecy to a tee. He is the focal point of both testaments. He said in John, "Before Abraham was, I AM." He claimed to be the light of the world, He claimed to be the way, the truth, the life. He claimed to be the alpha and omega. He said that He and His Father were one. He claimed to forgive sins and He accepted worship. He claimed to be the ONLY way. He performed countless miracles to verify His claims. When Thomas touched the nail scars on His hands and put his hand in his side, he said "Oh Lord, My God." Jesus said, "you believe because you have seen Me. Blessed are those who haven't seen Me and believe anyway."

I've always loved the way C.S. Lewis put it in Mere Christianity.  He wrote, "I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: 'I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God.' That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic -‑ on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg ‑- or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the son of God: or else a madman or something worse...you can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God.  But let us not come up with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher.  He has not left that open to us.  He did not intend to."

I believe that Jesus Christ is the God of the Universe and the Savior of the world, just as He claimed.  Believing this changes everything.

My Faith Story

I am a sinner saved by grace.  The whole concept never ceases to amaze me.  And I've been called to present the simple gospel message to you.  Just so you know, I'm probably the least qualified person ever.  I can't even speak without getting tongue-tied most of the time.  But God has shown me in His word and in His gentle nudging that I must share the greatest message ever told to all that will listen.  If I can't speak it properly...I pray that I can use the written word and that it will be effective.  As Paul said in the book of Ephesians, "so here I am, preaching and writing about things that are way over my head, the inexhaustible riches and generosity of Christ.  This is my life's work...helping people understand and respond to this message.  It came as a sheer gift to me, a real surprise, God handling all the details."

My testimony is not one of heartache and suffering and any reference to my former church is not intended to bash or criticize.  I consider all of my experiences blessings and now understand that God used each and every detail to give me a unique ministry to help further His kingdom.

I had an ideal childhood.  My parents were like June and Ward Cleaver, only better.  My sister looked like Marsha Brady but was kind and sweet, to boot.  Blessings abounded.  I grew up in a denomination known for their holiness standards and their unique interpretation of how scripture tells us to be saved.  Church was fun and never boring and many precious people loved and cared for me there.  My childhood and teenage years were filled with top-notch Christian music, fiery preaching and warm fellowship.  I've yet to encounter any other denomination that quite compares.  I'm grateful for those precious years and especially grateful for a Godly mother who showed me who Jesus was through her words and actions.

Regrettably, there were several things required to become a Christian in my denomination.  I was able to fill all of those requirements except one.  It was necessary to speak in tongues as proof that the Holy Spirit was truly dwelling in you.  Without the evidence of tongues, you were not saved.  My, how I tried to speak in tongues! I begged and pleaded with God for years.  I gave Him everything I had and repented of known and unknown sin.  I gave up begging and just asked Him to fill me if it was His will.  I remember how I dreaded the first service of the morning at church camp.  The preacher would ask those who still didn't have the Holy Ghost to stand up.  I'd often be the only one standing and the only one not going to heaven.  Not only was this humiliating...there was no way to escape hell for me and I became exceedingly fearful.  Over the years, I finally learned to act as if I had spoken in tongues so that I could be left alone.  But living a lie became harder and harder.

As you might expect, I went on to college and became quite bitter towards a God that wouldn't allow me in to heaven no matter how much I begged and pleaded.  In fact, I couldn't even believe in such a vindictive God any longer.  I'd also decided I was too intelligent to believe.  I was learning that the world was over-populated and man was destroying our great planet earth.  I discovered that Jesus was just one path to God and whatever your personal preference was quite alright.  Why not just worship the sun or the moon if we wanted?  Who was I to judge?  Everything was relative. I declared myself a liberal and made it my mission not to stand in anyones way of what they believed to be right or wrong.

But God had other plans for my life that I was not aware of at the time.  I eventually married and had kids and would ocassionally attend church services with them because it seemed the right thing to do.  It was during this time that a young boy opened fire on a prayer group in a high school in my hometown.  I'll never forget that fateful day.  He killed three young girls and paralyzed another.  It was immediately apparent to me that these girls died as martyrs for God.  As if God was sending a message to me directly, I knew that these girls were in heaven even as I ached for their families and the family of the shooter.  Although I had been attending church, I had been unable to understand the gospel message through all my confusion.  I remember the Sunday after the tragedy and the preacher speaking of grace.  Suddenly, it made perfect sense!   The victims of this senseless tragedy were in the arms of the Father and they knew nothing of the doctrine that teaches we must speak in tongues before we can be saved.  These girls were in heaven because they had placed their faith in God and not in their own righteousness.  Nothing they could do by themselves and no list of rules could ever be checked off perfectly enough to please God.  Our righteousness is as filthy rags to Him.  But Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected.  His blood paid the price for these girls and for me also.  Until this time, the message of the cross was just a sad story and  I'd cry at how Jesus suffered but the gospel message was lost on me.  In an instant, the cross and His amazing grace became the central focus of my life.  I picked up a Bible and began reading it as if for the first time.  I'd been programmed to read scripture in light of my church's interpretation of how we were supposed to be saved but now scripture was crystal clear and the gospel message was revealed to me over and over.  It was not difficult to understand or burdensome.  I began to read a verse I knew by heart but had never really understood.  "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."  John 3:16  Could this verse actually mean what it said?

Jesus said, "He who believes in me will live, even though He dies." John 11:25  He tells us, " I have come into the world as a light so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness."  John 12:46  In the book of Romans, Paul tell us "since we've compiled this long and sorry record as sinners and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us.  Out of sheer generosity, He put us in right standing with Himself.  A pure gift.  He got us out of the mess we're in and restored us to where He always wanted us to be.  And He did it by means of Jesus Christ."

It was at this time that I gave my life to God and knew that I had crossed over from death to life.  I believed in Him and placed my faith in Him alone.  His spirit was now within me and guiding my life.  I remember a particular moment when I was very sick and looked out the window into the night as I was washing dishes.  The moon had been transformed into a very large and beautiful cross.  It seemed to be my own personal miracle. I wept aloud with thankfulness that He'd died on the cross and allowed me to understand and accept the simple message of grace.  I could never be good enough, but He was good enough in my place.

Is this where my story ends?  Not at all...because as a sinner saved by grace, I was going to mess up.  I'm ashamed to admit that I hurt my friends, husband and even my own children over and over by my sinful actions.  I kept doing things I knew were not appropriate for someone who claimed to follow Christ.  But Jesus never let go of me and continually gives me the desire to change my sinful ways and to be more like Him.  He gently nudges me to change. He also allows me to experience hard times to show me that I must rely completely on Him and not in myself or in this world.

It has recently dawned on me that our lives on this earth are but a drop of water and eternity is a vast ocean.  When we die, it won't matter who we knew or what material possessions we've amassed.  It won't even matter how nice we were.  What will matter is what we've done for Christ.  Did we share the message?  Did we use our time on earth to help build His kingdom that will never end?  God is offering a gift of eternal life to those who believe and trust in Him alone.  My desire is that you will respond to His Message and accept His free gift.  He desires that all will follow Him and wants no one to suffer in a place called hell.  I can't rest until I've shared this message with everyone who crossses my path.  I'm empowered by the Holy Spirit. As Peter and John said in the book of Acts, "As for us, there's no question-we can't keep quiet about what we've seen and heard."  This gift of grace is for me and for you.

An Eternal Perspective

The more I read, study and know God...the more I realize that life here on this earth is but a snippet of time in what is eternity.  My prayer is that I am able to use my life here for earthly service.  With an eternal perspective, we start being less concerned about hoarding possessions and seeking a life of leisure.  Our joy comes from Christ and we are here to fulfill our purpose which is to further God's kingdom.  I remember the old song, "Only one life, so soon 'twill pass, only what's done for Christ will last."  The question is...do we believe He is the creator of the universe and that His words to us about Heaven and Hell are true?  If so, things with me have to change.

I love to read or listen to Francis Chan and I've posted this video on my facebook before. But it seemed fitting to share it here.

A Worthy Read

A sad, dated and discolored little book sat on the bookshelf of my childhood home for as long as I can remember.  It didn't look appealing enough to even pick up and read the description on the back.  My sister and I exchange books at Christmas that we've enjoyed throughout the year and the sad looking little book of my childhood was one of the books in my gift box.  I decided I'd give it a go this time around not knowing it would have the ability to completely transform my thinking.

The book is "The Hiding Place" by Corrie Ten Boom.  As stated on the back of the book, "Corrie ten Boom was a Dutch watchmaker who became a heroine of the Resistance, a survivor of Hitler's concentration camps, and one of the most remarkable evangelists of the twentieth century. In World War II she and her family risked their lives to help Jews and underground workers escape from the Nazis, and for their work they were tested in the infamous Nazi death camps. Only Corrie among her family survived to tell the story of how faith ultimately triumphs over evil.  This is a riveting account of how Corrie and her family were able to save many of God's chosen people.  For 35 years, millions have seen that there is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still."

Personally, I was struck by the how Corrie and her sister were strip searched and hosed over and over but still managed to sneak in a Bible in the concentration camp.  They were almost excited at how God had allowed them to share the gospel with hundreds of dying Jews as they were dying themselves.  They understood that this was their purpose and what they'd been put on earth to do.  Over and over, God revealed His power in the worst of circumstances.  They trusted in Jesus as their hiding place.   Although they endured the worst horrors imaginable, this book is uplifting, encouraging and will possibly change your thinking forever.  In addition to sharing God with suffering Jews, she lived to share her story and the gospel to all parts of the world. If you've never seen a real Christian in action, read this.  If you can't understand how an atrocity can be used for God's glory, read this.  Simply put...read this.

Fruitiness

A nominal Christian.  It's not pleasant when you realize that's what you are.  A nominal Christian is one who
says he/she is a Christian, but does not possess a trusting, faithful, dependent relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.  I remember looking in the Bible at the list of spiritual fruits that Christians should be bearing and found myself wanting. Could an ordinary onlooker even guess that I was a Christian?  Probably not.  But if you've truly placed your faith in Jesus, you will want to be like Him and He will begin a work in your life.  You will begin to bear fruit and others will want to reach up and grab what you have on your branches so that they may eat too.  I copied and laminated this inventory I found and hung it on my refrigerator several years back.  At the time, it scared me.  But if you ask, God will give you the desire and the ability to bear fruit.  I've got a long way to go for sure and I pray that I get much fruitier!  Enjoy the list.  I thought it was awesome!

*It's important to understand that doing any of these things doesn't win us more brownie points with God.  They are not "works" we do to be saved. Remember, it is by grace we are saved and not of ourselves.  But a true Christian will begin desiring these things and will want to grow in Christlikeness.

A Wise Way to Spend 5 Minutes

Want to use 5 minutes wisely?  Watch the whole thing to see an unconventional yet beautiful video presentation of the gospel.

Objections to Christianity

Perhaps you struggle with your intellect and it stands in the way of believing there is a God.  You are not alone.  I once fancied myself quite and intellectual and it seemed that things stood in my way that didn't bother most people.  I wondered about what happened to those who had never heard of Jesus.  It seemed it was narrow-minded to think Jesus was the only way to God.  Wasn't being a good person all that really mattered?  Why was there evil in the world?  And what about those hypocritical Christians?

Since this was an obvious obstacle to my having freedom in Christ, I took my mustard seed of faith (for that was all I had) and asked God to help me with my questions.  In Jeremiah 29:3, He gives us a promise.  "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."  God began peeling back the layers of my doubt.  As I read the Bible, it began to feel more like an exciting novel as it unfolded and gave me the answers to life's questions.  God also led me to useful books and wise people because I'd asked for His help.

To write all that I've learned in a blog would be never-ending.  But along the way, I've read some exceptional books and have come upon some helpful websites that you can trust.  I'd like to share those.

1) Read the Bible for it is God-breathed and infallible.  You can read the Bible online in whatever version you choose on this fantastic site!    http://www.biblegateway.com/

2) This Christian Apologetics website has been around for quite some time and it is extensive and beyond helpful.  It also gives lots of advice for those struggling with cults or new age movements.  http://carm.org/

3)  A most-helpful website about integrating science and faith.  http://www.reasons.org/

4) A mega-site that provides Biblical answers to contemporary question.  http://www.christiananswers.net/

5) One of my favorite Christian apologists who spends his life defending the faith and helping others defend it also...http://www.leestrobel.com/

Now for some of my favorite Christian Apologetic books...

1) Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

2)  Jesus Among Other Gods:  The Absolute Claims of the Christian Message by Ravi Zacharias

3) The Case for Christ and The Case for Faith, both by Lee Strobel

4) Letters from a Skeptic: A Son Wrestles with His Father's Questions about Christianity by Dr. Gregory Boyd

*There are so many books and sites out there but these are my faves.

Can You Know You're Going to Heaven?

This is an article on an awesome website by Randy Alcorn of Eternal Perspectives Ministry.  It's worth a read.

Teach Me How to Pray

Some days, I can't seem to get started in my prayer.  Maybe you've never really prayed or have no idea how to begin.  In the Bible, Jesus' disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray.  He responded with what we call "The Lord's Prayer".  Within that prayer, there are several components.  To remember them, I use a simple acronym based on the word ACTS.  I borrowed it from a children's devotional but it has helped me when I don't know how to begin.  Hope it will help you too.

  • A is for adoration.  God wants to be praised.  He wants us to spend time glorying in His awesomeness and telling Him how much we love Him.

  • C is for confession.  As Christians, we will sin.  But we should spend time specifically confessing our sins to Him.  Ask for His help to turn away from or repent from our sins.  Sin happens, but repeated sin should no longer be the lifestyle of a Christian.  For example, we may be guilty of stealing.  But repent of the sin and don't allow stealing to become something we do again.

  • T is for thanksgiving.  Take time to thank Him for all the many blessings He gives you daily.  Be specific and take time to dwell on how great He is.

  • S is for supplication.  The root word of supplication is "supply".  Humbly ask God to supply your needs and the needs of others.

So This is My Favorite Song...

This sounds like an old hymn, but it is actually an inspired, modern song written by Stuart Townend and Keith Getty.  This version is sung by the guy from Owl City who is unapologetic about his faith in Christ.  It has helped me through the pressures and difficulties in life through the years.  How can we go wrong with Christ Alone as our foundation?  Enjoy!

How Do I Find Peace With God?

Hmmm...what words can I say to help you come to know the Creator of the Universe?  I could write all day about knowing Him, but a really cool man named Billy Graham has done an awesome job at sharing the Good News.  I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I shared this fabulous website.  It's simple, beautiful and Enough.
