So now that I have your attention, give me a minute to explain. My pastor recently finished an informative series about finding and using our spiritual gifts and also how we can better use our gifts when we understand our distinct, God-given personalities. According to the Bible, spiritual gifts are given to each of us to prepare God's people for service and for building His kingdom. Some are given the ability to speak and lead, others are given gifts of hospitality, encouragement or administration. There are numerous gifts, all of them equally important. As the body of Christ, we can't all be the mouth or the hands. We must also have the feet, ears, elbows and knees. Some of us think we haven't been given a gift but we all surely have one. And the purpose of our gift is to serve others and bring them to Christ.
Consider Mother Theresa and her gifts of kindness and compassion. Those gifts weren't wasted as she served and shared the love of Jesus to multitudes of sick and dying people. I can think of countless others who are not so well-known and are giving their gifts to God.
Now consider Lady Ga Ga. The woman has some gifts. No doubt about it... she is bold, creative and has a wonderful singing voice. But her gifts are being used to glorify sex, drugs, self and to mock the God who created her. Imagine for a moment how she could impact the world if she were using her creativity and boldness to share the gospel message. She has the potential to further the kingdom in a mighty way.
